From Cleaner to Site-Manager of one of London’s most iconic hotels: Rebecca’s journey with Act-Clean

The Standard, London is known for its bold design, eclectic mix of restaurants and bars, and a vibrant energy that reflects a global spirit.

From rooftop views to late-night parties, it’s a destination that dines out on creativity and a sense of fun, all while maintaining the highest standards of hospitality and cleanliness, as Rebecca Umukoro, Act-Clean’s site manager for The Standard knows very well.

Behind the scenes, keeping such a dynamic space spotless takes dedication, teamwork, and innovation.

For Rebecca, every day at The Standard is about more than keeping a space immaculate, it’s about leading her team, building trust, and making a difference for the environment.

Rebecca’s career journey

Growing from strength to strength, Rebecca joined Act-Clean just over two years ago as a cleaner. Through hard work and dedication, she was promoted to team leader, then supervisor, and now holds the role of Site Manager at The Standard, overseeing one of Act-Clean’s largest night teams cleaning front and back of house areas.

“It’s rewarding to see the difference my team makes,” Rebecca reflects. “I enjoy watching them grow, supporting them to learn, and celebrating when our client gives us positive feedback.”

Leading by example

Rebecca describes her leadership style as fair and encouraging. She makes a point of treating every team member equally and listening to their needs, adjusting her approach depending on their personalities, and importantly she leads by example.

“I guide my team by showing them how things should be done, encouraging them, and making sure they feel confident in their work. Taking pride in our work is really important.”

Her relationship with The Standard’s client team is built on the same principles. Rebecca works closely with Housekeeping Manager Anzelica, ensuring smooth communication at the end of every shift.

“Rebecca is incredible” Anzelica says, “She takes responsibility for her team, for training and addresses any issues. It’s clear she is committed to upholding high standards – which is so important for our five-star property and delivering to the standards our guests expect. For me personally, I’m always pleased to see Rebecca and appreciate how easy it is to work with her.”

Growing together with Act-Clean

What excites Rebecca most about her role isn’t just the responsibility of managing a large operation, it’s the opportunities Act-Clean provides for growth by promoting people within.

Head of Operations at Act-Clean Mark Golding speaks highly of Rebecca: “When Rebecca started she was immediately going above and beyond as a night cleaner: showing initiative. This is essential for managing a team, and coupled with Rebecca’s personality, as someone that’s empathetic, willing to listen and learn, and always wanting to deliver for our clients – made her obvious for promotion, and makes her perfect for the Site Manager role, and I’m really grateful to have her as part of our team.”

From starting as a cleaner to leading a team at one of London’s most vibrant hotels, Rebecca’s journey is a testament to Act-Clean’s commitment to supporting its people and its clients to the highest possible standards.
